MA Dramatherapy

Roehampton University

The MA Dramatherapy programme at Roehampton offers unique training within the Ritual Theatre process of dramatherapy. Drawing heavily on the theatrical observations of Peter Brook and the experiments of Jerzy Grotowski, as well as anthropological notions of “rites of passage” and the importance of “myth”, the programme offers a clearly structured developmental process for the clinical application of dramatherapy at various levels.

November 2004 Dramatherapy placement for ‘Kids Company’ working with two 10 year old girls in a mainstream school in London.

2005 Placement at Farnham road hospital (acute adult mental health ward).  I ran a 30 week open group for adults with a wide spectrum of needs (schizophrenia, depression, suicidal ideologies).  I also worked on an individual basis for 20 sessions with an individual with a past history of acute depression and sexuality issues, these sessions were used to write my case study.

2006 to 2007 Placement 2 x 15 week placements in Thornchase secondary special school and ‘The Hope’ Pupil referral unit. These centres cater for adolescents with behavioural needs offering education as well as additional therapeutic support to the pupils attending. Within both placements my work focused on exploring the work of dramatherapy in raising self esteem in the pupils with a particular interest in working with individuals who it is believed may have experienced sexual abuse. My work at ‘Hope’ was instrumental in my thesis writing around dramatheraputic work with adolescents who may have been sexually abused.
