Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy

I hold a Level one certificate in Dyadic Developmental psychotherapy (DDP) I am therefor able to offer DDP informed support .

DDP holds the parent child relationship in high regard and uses the dyad as the platform for healing. During the therapeutic intervention parents learn a specialised trauma informed parenting approach while children learn emotional regulation and interpersonal relationship skills. DDP aims to facilitate a trusting and secure relationship between parent and child. Sessions will be held with the parents, with opportunity to review the potential for the young person to join later if felt appropriate given their age.

The main focus of this therapy is on supporting the family to understand and implement strategies which can support family relationships, children who display challenging behaviour and children who have experienced developmental trauma. This will include supporting parents and the young person to make deeper emotional connections.

Through DDP I support parents in exploring the underlying reasons behind some of the challenging, hypervigilant behaviours that their child may be displaying.

This process involves includes talk with the parents about any of their own life experiences which might be relevant and will support understanding of how this can impact on their own attachment and parenting styles.

PACE – Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy

Central within DDP is PACE, a way of thinking which deepens the emotional connections in our relationship with others.

Playfulness brings enjoyment to the relationship. Acceptance creates psychological safety.  When we curiously explore within a relationship we express a desire to know the other more deeply. Empathy communicates our curiosity and acceptance, as we recognize and respond to the other’s emotional experience.
